Antarctica
Introduction
Did you know that Antarctica is the coldest country and continent? With temperatures reaching to -89 degrees there’s no surprise. Antarctica is located at the bottom of Earth. An amazing fact is that Antarctica used to be part of Australia!
Fauna
There are many types of beautiful Antarctic animals. Penguins are just one of these amazing creatures, with 17 types of penguins scavenging for food at the same time whilst looking after their babies, they are amazing. Seals are one of the most dangerous creatures and live underwater but also go on land and eat penguins. The other animal nearly all animals eat is krill. Krill lives underwater and is orange.
Visitors
If you are lucky enough to go to Antarctica you will have to go by ship, not a cruise ship of course but a ship that has metal on the bottom that amazingly cuts through ice! You will have to sleep on the ship but you will get spoilt with food. I was lucky enough to meet someone who visited Antarctica, she showed her amazing photos, she also said she wore 5 layers of clothes just to keep warm.
Climate
Antarctica has the coldest climate in the world! In winter Antarctica doubles the size due to parts of the southern ocean freezing. A weird fact is that in winter Antarctica never gets light and in summer Antarctica never gets dark. 70% of the world’s fresh water is frozen there. The ice can be 6 feet thick and in summer the water can be -2 degrees.
Early Explorers
One of the first explorers in Antarctica was Scott. He explored Antarctica in 1911 and explored the territory we call today The South Pole. Until 1921 nobody saw him but he never gave up. Ancient Greeks also explored Antarctica. Many other people tried to explore Antarctica but as they only had wooden ships they didn’t make it through the ice. Another explorer was called Richard and he was the first to fly over Antarctica.
Conclusion
As you can see Antarctica has many amazing facts, from the wildlife of Antarctica to the beautiful ice sculptures. Antarctica is a special country everyone can't stop talking about. One other thing that I haven’t mentioned is that Antarctica would be larger than now but thousands of years ago ice dissolved from parts of Antarctica. People from all around the world want to find out more about Antarctica.
